Xanh lá cây là màu khá quan trọng trong tự nhiên. Đó chính là màu của cỏ và lá còn non trên cành. Nó cũng là màu của đa số thực vật đang phát triển.
Đôi khi, từ green có nghĩa là trẻ, tươi tắn và đang phát triển. Có khi nó lại diễn tả điều gì đó chưa chín muồi hoặc chưa hoàn thiện.
Ex. Một greenhorn là người không có kinh nghiệm, người mới đối với một hoàn cảnh nào đó. Vào thế kỷ XV, một greenhorn là một con bê có sừng chưa phát triển. Một thế kỷ sau hay lâu hơn, một greenhorn lại mang nghĩa là một tên lính chưa có kinh nghiệm chiến trường. Đến thế kỷ XVIII, greenhorn mới mang nghĩa như bây giờ - một người mới vào nghề. Khoảng một trăm năm trước, greenhorn là một ngữ thông dụng ở miền Tây nước Mỹ. Người xưa thường dùng nó để diễn tả một người đàn ông đến từ một thành phố lớn về miền đông, người này thiếu nhũng kỹ năng cần có để sống ở miền đất khó khăn gian khổ.

Ai đó có khả năng trồng cây tốt được gọi là green thumb, còn gọi là người có tay trồng cây. Người này dường như có bàn tay kỳ diệu có thể làm cây phát triển nhanh chóng và tốt tươi.

Xanh lá cây cũng là màu được sử dụng để diễn tả một cảm xúc dữ dội, đó là sự đố kỵ. Green-eyed monster không phải là một con quái vật đáng sợ ngoài hành tinh. Nó diễn tả cảm giác khó chịu mà ai đó phải nhận lấy khi ai đó có được thứ anh ta muốn. Một chàng trai sẽ có green-eyed monster khi bạn gái anh ta bắt đầu đi chơi với người khác, hoặc khi bạn bè anh ta được tăng lương còn anh ta thì không.

Hầu hết ở các nước trên thế gới, green light là một tín hiệu để tiếp tục lưu thông. Green light bật sáng ở biển giao thông nghĩa là xe bạn có thể tiếp tục đi. Trong câu nói thường ngày, green light nghĩa là tán thành việc tiếp tục một hoạch định.

It's really necessary for us when reading & writing. Thank you, TieuLogNu. Besides, sometimes I also see American use "red" to show their feelings or something opposite with "green" above.

Black
black and white
MEANING: think of everything or judge everything as either good or bad
EXAMPLE:
” He tries to see everything in black and white although he knows this is impossible.”

black out
MEANING: 1. to darken by putting out or dimming electric lights
2. to lose consciousness
EXAMPLE:
1. During the war people in the cities were forced to black out their windows so that the enemy aircraft could not see them.
2. Suddenly the man blacked out during the parade and had to be helped to a quiet place.
black sheep (of the family)
MEANING: a person who is a disgrace or embarrassment to a family or group

EXAMPLE:
The man is the black sheep in his family and is the only member who has not had a successful career and life.

MEANING: successful or profitable
EXAMPLE:
The company has been in the black since they began to adopt many new ideas to cut costs.

Blue

to appear/happen out of the blue


MEANING:
1. to arrive unexpectedly, usually after a long absence.
2. to happen very suddenly and unexpectedly

EXAMPLE:

1. "My brother suddenly appeared out of the blue yesterday. We hadn't seen him for years.”
2. “I was driving home when out of the blue a deer jumped out in front of my car. I braked just in time to avoid it. We were both very lucky not to be hurt.”

EXAMPLE:

MEANING: critical description of a boy/young man who has been singled out for special favours by someone in authority.

MEANING: to lack personality, to be boring.

EXAMPLE:

MEANING: to be not quite at one's best, to feel queasy or slightly ill.
EXAMPLE:

"She's a little off colour today because she was up very late last night and had too much to drink!."

MEANING: to make (an account, story, explanation, etc.) more credible or more believable.

EXAMPLE:

" The broken window on the ground floor lent colour to her story that

MEANING: a report that is exaggerated or biased.
EXAMPLE:

"I read the government’s highly coloured report on the great state of the health services."

MEANING: be very pleased, thrilled, delighted

EXAMPLE:

Red

to be shown the red card


MEANING: to be dismissed from your job.

EXAMPLE:

"The accountant was shown the red card for hiding company money.”

MEANING: to have an overdraft, to be in debt.

EXAMPLE:

”I am overdrawn again. I hate being in the red.”

to catch someone red-handed

MEANING: to catch someone in the act of committing a crime, usually a theft.

EXAMPLE:

MEANING: to see things in a flattering or over-optimistic light.

EXAMPLE:

MEANING: in a state of great fear

MEANING: a useless possession

EXAMPLE:

The new stereo that he bought is a white elephant and he doesn’t need it at all.

He is a yellow-bellied coward and never is willing to fight for what is right.

MEANING: cowardice in character

EXAMPLE:

He has a yellow streak running down his back and is not a good person to expect to support you when things become difficult.

I'm lost in this colorful world Surprised ! It is true that our world will be dull without colours. Do you think so?

WHITE means Pure - Honesty holds true

BLUE brings Solitude - Time to look within

YELLOW brings me Warmth to care

ORANGE holds Sorrows, old and new

TEAL gives me Laughter and Joy to share

RED beats with the Heart of friends

GREEN keeps Jealousy and Envy all in check

PURPLE holds Loyalties that know not time
